Ray’s Den is a perfect stop on 395 in Independence if you want a comfortable bed, a clean room, and friendly service. It is legitimately a non-smoking property. Most motels smell like old cigarette smoke, mixed with fabreeze. Ray’s Den does not. Linda is super nice, and very helpful. I can’t add much more that isn’t already covered by the excellent reviews already posted. We will make this our go to destination when passing through. The two taco trucks down the street are both really good. We sadly missed out on Cowboy Coffee, Still Life Cafe, and Eastern Sierra Ice Cream Company (we were there on a Tuesday night, and Wednesday morning), all of which sound great. Thanks, Linda!
Delightfully retro motel! We only stayed here one night but found it to be a great find as well as location. There are only eight rooms but be sure to ask for a lower number, as they are further from the main road, thus quieter. The bed was super comfy! It would have been nice to have a bedside table on both sides as well as electrical outlets but, hey, this is truly retro. There is even a current phone book and phone. They DO have a nice LED TV. There is a small fridge and coffee maker as well as a small window A/C unit (which can be a bit noisy). Be aware that rooms are not ADA compliant but due to their age, are not required to be. Those who are wheel chair-bound will find it impossible to get into the bathroom and shower. Be sure to stroll through Dehy Park and playground, a very short walk towards the mountain range. We loved our stay here!
Ray's Den is THE place to R&R while exploring the beautiful Sierras! Linda was delightful from the moment we booked through checkout. The rooms at Ray's Den were quaint and comfortable, immaculately maintained, with all the necessary creature comforts. Highly recommend and will book here again any time I'm in the Mt. Whitney area.
IMMACULATE room, probably the cleanest room I've ever stayed in. Towels are bright white. Linda the owner does all the cleaning, laundry, and making sure the amenities are stocked. And she is a nice person. Don't hesitate to stay here.
The lady that owns this motel does it all. Cleans, greets, answers the phone and even takes time to pass the day with her guests. Our room was clean, modern, had two beds & cost $115. We'll be back. We had dinner off the Mexican food truck down the street and it was very good.
Wonderful overnight stay. The room was clean with all basic amenities such as mini fridge, coffee maker, microwave, functional ac & warm shower. Ice was provided from a small deep freezer adjacent to the office. Also can wash clothes and place on clothes hanger to dry (this was related to me by another guest who was a stopover from an intermittent month long hiking trek). Chairs and table located outside each room. This is a small motel with 8 units. Very personable place where it seems easy to strike up conversations with guests and owner if you chose to do so while sitting outside.
